Guantanamo Navel Station has been attacked by Cuban armed forces; a Soviet mechanized brigade has been overcome; some twenty thousand Americans and Soviets have been taken hostage. Fidel Castro’s surprise military strike alarms the world.
This begins the Crisis. Castro demands that the imperialist nations pay off the Third World’s debts. It is his last desperate attempt to maintain power and prestige in a communist world shaken by the changes in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.
The Oval Office and the Kremlin ring with debate. American and Russian military men want action. Now, for the first time since World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union must fight together to defeat a vicious dictator.
